Abstract

It was recently conjectured by Vivo, Pato, and Oshanin [Phys. Rev. E 93, 052106 (2016)] that for a bipartite quantum system in a pure state, the variance of the von Neumann entropy of a subsystem is given by an elegant formula involving polygamma functions. In the first part of the talk, we give a proof of the VPO’s conjecture. In the second part, we discuss the implication of the proof to some long-standing open problems on the fluctuations of mutual information of MIMO wireless channels.
